Lake Vyrnwy Hotel in its environment
Our hotel is in one of the most beautiful parts of Wales. If you have a soul, you cannot fail to identify with the karma of the countryside. It affects your very being.
We are an important part of the community: not only do we live and work here, but we provide employment in the area.
So you will understand our feeling of being close to the land, close to the people.
We buy whatever we can locally. For example, if you choose lamb from our menu, it will be from our local estate. Pheasant and game from our own shoot.
The Lake Vyrnwy valley is a National Nature Reserve managed by the RSPB who farm much of the uplands, in what is now the largest organic farm in Europe. Much of the ground you see from the hotel is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI): There are many important species on site including peregrine falcon, merlin, hen harriers and black grouse.
We take our environmental responsibility very seriously: Our sewage system breaks down hotel waste with eco-friendly micro organisms. A brand new condensing boiler system reduces our energy needs by over 25%, reducing the business’s carbon footprint. Organic waste is composted.
All water used by us around the grounds and for estate work comes from the original Victorian water system. And soon we’ll be bottling Lake Vyrnwy Mountain Water.
The Vyrnwy Sporting Company is involved with other partners in experimental work to support the threatened populations of red and black grouse and other upland birds on the estate.
Trees are actively managed on our land, and for each tree removed or harvested, at least three are planted.
You too can help by reducing the impact of laundry: if you want your towels to be changed, drop them in the bath. If you’re happy to use them again, put them onto the towel rail.
