The Tower Bar with its leather furniture, open fire and irritable-looking trout has the air of a Victorian club.
But the conservatory’s outside terrace provides a lighter and airier space, wonderful in summertime: overlooking the lake and the tower, of course.
Be spoiled for choice, with eight house wines to taste, a selection of gins and vodkas.
And for the connoisseur, over 25 malt whiskies, even a vertical tasting of fine armagnacs from the 40s to the present day, all are served in crystal glasses.
Pass the port would you, dear boy. In all, a very pleasant place to take a drink.
